Latanoprost, a novel phenyl substituted propyl ester prostaglandin F2a, is a selective F2a receptor agonist. It is an inactive substance that can penetrate into the cornea rapidly. It can be hydrolyzed into active free acid in cornea and plasma. It can increase the outflow of aqueous humor through the canthus layer, with a small dosage, but it can promote the filling of aqueous humor. The liquid can penetrate into the upper layer of the supraciliary choroid of the eyeball, which has a good effect of lowering intraocular pressure.
